What the heck were Shamrock Shakes supposed to taste like anyway?

I don't know if McDonald's still makes them, but I remember them to be a very vague flavor of some sort.

What the heck were Shamrock Shakes supposed to taste like anyway?
Geez...now I have a craving for a Shamrock Shake. Thanks a lot! It vaguely tasted like mint and green food dye.

Sadly, the Shamrock Shack is mostly a thing of the past. There is, however, a website dedicated to convincing McDonald's franchise owners to bring back the Shamrock Shake. Check out the site below.
Reply:They were kind of minty.

What a great concept: food remembered for what it looked like, but not what it tasted like. You can't say that about liver and onions.
Reply:They were green and tasted like mint. Yum.
Reply:If you were a fan of Shamrock Shakes, you wouldn't be asking. They have a really cool minty taste and yes, they usually serve them around St. Patty's day. Though I like many shakes, this is by far one of their best.
Reply:Mint
Reply:The Shamrock Shake is a seasonal dessert sold at select McDonald's fast-food franchises during March, to commemorate St. Patrick's Day. Essentially, the Shamrock Shake is a standard Vanilla shake, flavored with mint extract and dyed green.

Shamrock Shakes were widely available across the United States until the early 1990s. According to the McDonald's website, Shamrock Shakes are now sold exclusively in Ireland, although they are still available at select American franchises during the month of March. The Shamrock Shake typically appears in U.S. McDonald's franchises in mid-February. As of March 10, 2007 the Shamrock Shake was available at the Kenmore Square McDonald's in Boston, MA.

During the 1980s, McDonald's used the Uncle O'Grimacey character to market Shamrock Shakes. However, he has been phased out.
