What does a shamrock tattoo with blood coming out of the stem mean?

A friend of mine has this tat, but refuses to tell me what it's symbolism is. It is located on his left arm, just below the elbow. Does anyone know where I can find a pic of the same tat?

What does a shamrock tattoo with blood coming out of the stem mean?
It's a Provo tattoo. It has to do with the problems in Northern Ireland. His is a tattoo supporting the militant wing of the Provisional Army of the Irish Republic.

Reply:It means that people want to mutilate their bodies and then make a science out of the meanings, as if these things were ancient runes left by the Phoenicians that we simply must decipher.
Reply:bad luck
Reply:The shamrock normally is if you are Irish. The blood I have no idea...prob means something special to him though.
Reply:Maybe he just liked it??
Reply:this is what i read but like they said it can be miss construed
Reply:I have never even heard of that before,

however,

Regardless of what it is "supposed" to mean, it may mean something completely different to him.

Personally, I don't think it sounds like a very good idea for a tattoo, but who am I to judge?

The point is, it's his tattoo, and if he got it for his own personal reasons and doesn't want anyone to know what it means to him, then that is his business and you should respect that.
