Why is a shamrock intigrated into the Alfa Romeo racing logo?

The clover badge started life as a good luck symbol on Alfa's race cars, but was added to the Alfasud T1 and Sprint in the 1980s.

The badge shows the car has Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) designation (translated to 4 leaf clover), which means it has been tuned, and has improved bodywork and styling (similar to M series BMW and Mercedes AMG)
