What is the difference between a four-leaf clover and a shamrock?

Shamrock is the name applied to a couple of varieties of clover native to Ireland -- Trifolium repens or Trifolium dubium. They typically have 3 leaves.

A four-leaf clover is a "birth defect" in any of a number of normally three leaved clovers.
